Blood-thinning medications
Do you take blood-thinning medication? If so, it is important to follow certain preparations to ensure a safe and secure vaccination.
Important considerations
Depending on which blood-thinning medication you use, different recommendations apply. In all cases, you should remain at the clinic after vaccination and press a few fingers against the injection site for at least 5 minutes to reduce the risk of bleeding.
Waran/Warfarin
- Treatment with Waran only: PK (INR) < 3.0, taken within the last 14 days.
- Dual therapy (Waran + ASA or clopidogrel) or triple therapy (Waran + ASA + clopidogrel): PK (INR) ≤ 2.0, taken within the last 7 days.
Oral anticoagulants (NOACs)
Exampel: Pradaxa, Eliquis, Xarelto, Lixiana- Treatment does not need to be paused or adjusted.
Low-molecular-weight heparins
Exampel: Innohep, Fragmin, Klexane samt Arixtra- Treatment does not need to be paused or adjusted.
Antiplatelet medications
Exempel: Trombyl, Plavix, Clopidogrel, Grepid, Brilique, Efient- Behandling med ett eller två trombocythämmande läkemedel behöver inte pausas eller förskjutas.
Combination therapy (oral FXa inhibitor or dabigatran + antiplatelet medication)
- Vaccination should take place 2 hours before the next dose of anticoagulant/antiplatelet medication.
- Example: If you are vaccinated at 9:00 a.m., you may take your blood-thinning medication at 11:00 a.m.
