How the Vaccination Works
At VaccinDirekt, we offer yellow fever vaccination and also issue the international vaccination certificate required by many countries for entry. The vaccination is simple, given as a single dose, and provides lifelong protection.
Who Should Get Vaccinated Against Yellow Fever?
Anyone traveling to areas where yellow fever occurs, especially parts of Africa and South America. Some countries also require a valid vaccination certificate for entry, even if the risk of infection is low.
The Vaccine Is Not Recommended For:
Children under 9 months
Pregnant or breastfeeding women
People with severely weakened immune systems
People undergoing treatment with cytostatics or high doses of cortisone
Adults over 60 – an individual assessment is recommended
You are always welcome to receive advice from our nurses.
When Should You Get Vaccinated?
The vaccination should be taken at least 10 days before departure, as protection is only considered valid from that point and the vaccination certificate will be accepted for entry.
Vaccination Schedule
The yellow fever vaccine is given as a single dose. For most people, one dose provides lifelong protection.
This is Why It’s Important to Get Vaccinated Against Yellow Fever
Getting vaccinated against yellow fever is not only protection for yourself but also a requirement in many countries. The disease is life-threatening and can progress rapidly without treatment. Here are some important reasons why you should not delay vaccination.
The Disease Can Be Deadly
Yellow fever often causes high fever, jaundice, and bleeding. In severe cases, the mortality rate is very high – and there is no curative treatment. Vaccination is the only protection.
A Requirement for Entry in Several Countries
Many countries in Africa and South America require a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at border control. Without the certificate, you may be denied entry.
Mosquitoes Spread the Disease Quickly
Yellow fever is transmitted by the same mosquito species that can also carry other diseases. During outbreaks, the infection can spread very quickly, meaning even short trips carry risk.
Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute
Protection is only considered valid 10 days after vaccination. Therefore, it is important to get vaccinated well in advance of your trip to avoid any issues.
