How the vaccination works

At VaccinDirekt, you receive an influenza vaccine updated for this year’s virus strains and tailored to your risk group. We provide guidance, ensure vaccine availability at our clinics, and offer both drop-in visits and online booking – whichever suits you best.

Who should get vaccinated against influenza?

  • People aged 65 and older, and those with chronic illnesses that make them more vulnerable to severe influenza.
  • Pregnant women, especially from week 12 of pregnancy onward, to protect both themselves and the baby.
  • Children from 6 months of age who belong to medical risk groups (e.g. chronic lung disease, heart or vascular disease, weakened immune system).
  • Healthcare and caregiving staff, as well as household contacts of people with severely weakened immune systems.

The vaccine is not recommended for

  • People with a documented allergy to any component of the influenza vaccine.
  • Those with a high fever or acute infection should wait until they have recovered.
You are always welcome to consult our nurses for personal advice.

When should you get vaccinated?

It’s best to get vaccinated before the flu season begins – in October or when vaccination campaigns start. Even if you wait until November, it’s still worthwhile, as protection develops within about a week after vaccination.

Vaccination schedule

The flu vaccine is given as a single injection each season. Protection lasts for about one year, and since both the virus strains change and immunity decreases over time, you need to get vaccinated annually before each flu season.
For most people, one dose per year is enough. For children under 9 years being vaccinated for the first time, two doses during the same season are recommended, with at least four weeks between them, to build strong initial protection.

Why it’s important to get vaccinated against influenza

Influenza is more than “just a cold” – for those in risk groups, it can lead to severe illness, hospitalization, or even death. Getting vaccinated at VaccinDirekt significantly reduces the risk – for both you and those close to you.

Serious complications can occur

Influenza can lead to pneumonia, worsening of chronic conditions, heart disease, and other complications in people with weakened immune systems.

Protection fades – vaccination is needed every year

Because influenza viruses mutate and immunity decreases over time, annual vaccination is necessary to maintain up-to-date and optimal protection.

Protection for you and those around you

When you get vaccinated, you not only protect yourself – you also reduce the risk of spreading the virus to those most vulnerable, such as young children, the elderly, and people with underlying conditions.

Free vaccination for risk groups

For many people in risk groups, the influenza vaccine is free of charge. In addition, enhanced (high-dose) vaccines are offered to older adults for better protection.
