Preparing for your travel health consultation
Good preparation makes your travel health consultation smoother and more effective. Here are four steps to help you get the most out of your visit with us.
Book an appointment
Visit us well before your trip, preferably at least six weeks in advance. Some vaccines require multiple doses and time to build full protection. By booking early, we can plan and provide the best possible advice. If your trip is soon – come as soon as you can, we’ll still help you!
Prepare your travel details
Think about a few questions that will help us understand your trip better:- Which countries and regions will you visit?
- How are you traveling – charter, backpacking, work, or study?
- What will you do – sun and swim, safari, family visit?
- Where will you stay – hotel, hostel, farm, or with relatives/friends?
Bring your documents
For your visit, please bring:- Your yellow vaccination card
- Any other vaccination certificates
- A valid ID
Health declaration
We recommend filling out your health declaration on My Pages before your visit. This allows us to provide more accurate advice and saves time at the clinic.Travel tips and advice
A trip should be an experience – not ruined by illness or accidents. Here you’ll find important advice and simple precautions to reduce the risk of getting sick before, during, and after your journey.
Before your trip
Prepare in advance to travel safely.- Travel vaccines: Protect yourself from serious diseases through vaccination.
- Mosquito protection: Reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases with vaccination, insect repellent, treated mosquito nets, and covering clothing.
- Travel pharmacy: Bring a travel health kit adapted to your destination and itinerary.
- Insurance: Review your health insurance coverage and contact your insurance provider.
- Sweden Abroad: Check the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ recommendations for your destination.
- Local healthcare: Find out where to seek medical care if something happens during your trip.
During your trip
Be mindful of food, drinks, and your surroundings.- Food & drinks:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Eat only hot, well-cooked food.
- Avoid food that has been left out.
- Choose fruit you can peel yourself.
- Drink bottled (sealed) or boiled/purified water.
- Avoid ice cubes in drinks.
- Be cautious with vegetables that may have been rinsed in unsafe water, such as salads.
- Use common sense – does it look, smell, and taste fresh?
- Animal bites: Seek medical care immediately if bitten or scratched by an animal – even small wounds can pose a rabies risk. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes and disinfect if possible.
- Bloodborne infections: Be cautious with tattoos, piercings, or manicures/pedicures abroad, as they may carry a risk of bloodborne infections.
