Peru attracts travellers with unique destinations such as Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, and vibrant cities like Cusco and Lima. Before your trip, make sure your vaccinations are up to date. Recommended vaccines include hepatitis A, tetanus, and diphtheria. For longer stays or travel with lower hygiene standards, hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies, or cholera vaccines may also be relevant. Yellow fever vaccination and malaria protection can be needed when visiting the Amazon region. At VaccinDirekt, we specialise in travel vaccinations and personalised advice, tailoring recommendations to your travel plans and vaccination history for the best possible protection.

Prepare for your trip to Peru

To make your journey as safe and worry-free as possible, it's important to prepare in advance. Here you'll find our tips on vaccinations, travel health advice, disease prevention, and other practical information.

Get vaccinated in time

For full protection, it's important to start your vaccinations well in advance - ideally at least one month before departure. Some vaccines require multiple doses, while others need time to take effect.
Have you booked a last-minute trip or forgotten your vaccinations? Come in as soon as possible - we'll always do our best to give you the best possible protection based on your situation.

We are one of Sweden’s leading experts in travel vaccinations and stay up to date on the current situation in Peru. During your visit, we make an individual assessment based on your previous vaccinations, travel plans, and current information about disease occurrence or outbreaks in the country. At your appointment, we go through:
  • Your previous vaccinations
  • Your travel plans - how long and where you will be staying
  • Current outbreaks and recommendations

Protect yourself against diseases

In Peru, there is a risk of several mosquito-borne diseases, including yellow fever, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and malaria. To reduce the risk:
  • Use insect repellent on skin and clothing
  • Wear covering clothing, especially in the evenings
  • Sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets
Stomach infections are also common. Wash your hands frequently, avoid raw food, and drink bottled water only.

Important things to keep in mind

In addition to vaccinations and mosquito protection, remember to:
  • Travel pharmacy: Bring any essential medications from home
  • Insurance: Check that your health and travel insurance provides coverage abroad
  • Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (UD): Read the latest travel advice on Sweden Abroad
  • Local healthcare: Find out where to seek medical care if needed during your trip
